Preview: Olympic Heights Lions vs. Spanish River Sharks
Olympic Heights has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Spanish River Sharks at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Olympic Heights pushed their score all the way to 72 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 73-72 to Morningside Academy. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game on Friday (57), Olympic Heights still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Olympic Heights got a solid performance out of Harrison Cohen, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cohen has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Harbatkin, who scored 23 points.
Even though they lost, Olympic Heights smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Spanish River's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Grandview Prep by a score of 55-53. While losing is never fun, Spanish River can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 498th, while Grandview Prep is ranked 211th).
Olympic Heights' defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7. As for Spanish River, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Olympic Heights didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Spanish River when the teams last played on Friday, but they still walked away with a 57-53 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Olympic Heights since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
