Lake City is 9-1 against Sandpoint since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 2:00 p.m. The last five games Lake City has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Last Thursday, Lake City sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over Moscow. The Timberwolves haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Kyle Johnson was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Johnson was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mark Holecek, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Deacon Hunter, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Lake City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Sandpoint lost 13-6 to Coeur d'Alene last Thursday. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Parker Reichart made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Mason Little was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
Lake City's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.25 runs across that stretch. As for Sandpoint, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Everything went Lake City's way against Sandpoint in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Lake City made off with a 9-0 victory. Will the Timberwolves repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
