Recap: Opp Bobcats vs. McKenzie Tigers
The Opp Bobcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss. They fell 62-52 to McKenzie. Opp was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as McKenzie apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Opp's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Smith, who scored 12 points. Colby Ballard was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
McKenzie's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Quay Jackson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylen Mcmillian, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.
Opp dropped their record down to 2-21 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for McKenzie, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Opp will square off against Brantley at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Brantley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Opp likes a good challenge. McKenzie won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Pleasant Home at 7:15 p.m. on January 26th.
