Basketball Recap: Pioneer Extends Winning Streak to Three

Pioneer posted their biggest win since December 5, 2024 on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Javelinas as the Pioneer Diamondbacks made off with a 66-40 victory. The win was nothing new for the Diamondbacks as they're now sitting on three straight.

Pioneer's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Maldonado, who went 8 for 11 on his way to 21 points. Maldonado continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Muhamed Shaath was another key player, going 7 for 11 on his way to 16 points and three steals.

Pioneer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Pioneer's win bumped their record up to 11-13. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Vela the next time they take the court. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest will head out to face Vela at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, while Pioneer will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th.
