Preview: Omaha Northwest Huskies vs. Omaha Westside Warriors
Omaha Northwest has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Omaha Westside Warriors at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Omaha Northwest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Omaha Northwest was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 58-52 to Bellevue East. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Omaha Northwest in their matchups with Bellevue East: they've now lost six in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Dontae McDowell, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jackson Crawford, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Omaha Westside put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They managed a 58-53 win over Kearney. Given Omaha Westside's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while Kearney is ranked 79th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Omaha Westside's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kevin Stubblefield, who scored 15 points. The contest was Stubblefield's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of CJ Mitchell, who scored 14 points.
Omaha Northwest's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Omaha Westside, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-0.
Omaha Northwest was dealt a bruising 97-57 loss at the hands of Omaha Westside in their previous matchup back in January of 2021. Thankfully for Omaha Northwest, Reggie Thomas (who scored 22 points along with three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
