Preview: Plains Cowboys vs. Ropes Eagles
The Plains Cowboys will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Ropes Eagles at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Plains has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Ropes will arrive with three straight victories.
Last Friday, Plains took a serious blow against New Home, falling 77-14. While losing is never fun, Plains can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1103rd, while New Home is ranked 491st).
The losing side was boosted by Tyler Vargas, who threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Ropes narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Seagraves 17-14.
Plains' loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-2 Ralls and 5-3 Morton (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.4% over those games). As for Ropes, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Plains lost to Ropes at home by a decisive 35-18 margin in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Plains have more luck at home instead of on the road?
