Basketball Recap: ALA - Queen Creek Takes a Loss

ALA - Queen Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 64-25 loss at the hands of the Amphitheater Panthers. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2014.

Despite the loss, ALA - Queen Creek saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Shante Butler posted eight points and seven rebounds.

Amphitheater's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kayla Tuakalau, who almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, 11 rebounds, and nine blocks. The dominant performance also gave Tuakalau a new career-high in assists (three). Erika Gaxiola was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine boards.

ALA - Queen Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Amphitheater, their record is now 4-5.

ALA - Queen Creek and Tanque Verde will face off at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. ALA - Queen Creek is facing Tanque Verde at the right time seeing as Tanque Verde is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Amphitheater, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sabino at 5:30 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
