Baseball Recap: Newtown Comes Up Short

Newtown dropped their record down to 6-7 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 9-1 to the Brookfield Bobcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Nighthawks of the 7-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Brookfield, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

For Brookfield's part, Jack Ponte was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Ponte has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Matt McDowell, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
