Basketball Game Preview: Socastee Braves vs. Irmo Yellow Jackets

The Socastee Braves will head out on the road to face off against the Irmo Yellow Jackets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Socastee's last matchup with St. James could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Thursday. Socastee lost 73-48 to St. James. The Braves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Socastee got top-tier performance from Bryson Sams, who posted 28 points. Sams' evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points.

Meanwhile, Irmo fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Dutch Fork on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 51-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Silver Foxes. The loss continues a trend for the Yellow Jackets in their matchups with the Silver Foxes: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the defeat, Irmo saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jeremy Anderson almost dropped a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds. What's more, Anderson also posted three blocks, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jaden Rivers, who scored eight points.

Even though they lost, Irmo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Irmo's loss dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Socastee, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-14.
