Basketball Recap: Melbourne Piles Up the Points Against Odyssey Charter School

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Bishop Moore, Melbourne was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Odyssey Charter School Titans 57-21. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while the Titans are ranked 603rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Melbourne to victory were Brianna Matthews and Addyson Turba. Matthews went 5 of 9 en route to 12 points along with eight rebounds and five steals, while Turba dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards. Matthews has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 11 times she's played. Elena Neel was another key player, putting up six points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Melbourne was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Melbourne is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-12 record this season. As for Odyssey Charter School, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Both are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Melbourne will welcome Westwood at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Melbourne's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Westwood has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Odyssey Charter School has already played their next match (against Melbourne Central Catholic), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
