Basketball Game Preview: Pinecrest Patriots vs. Union Pines Vikings

Two dominant guards in Kennedy Moore and Ashanti Fox are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Pinecrest Patriots will take on the Union Pines Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pinecrest is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

On Tuesday, Pinecrest was able to grind out a solid victory over Hoke County, taking the game 49-41. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while the Bucks are ranked 413th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Union Pines won against Hoke County on Friday with 74 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. Union Pines simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Southern Lee 74-18. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 matches by 22 points or more this season.

The win was the third in a row for Union Pines, bringing their record for this year to 21-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.0 points over those games. As for Pinecrest, they pushed their record up to 13-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Pinecrest lost to Union Pines on the road by a decisive 57-42 margin in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Fox, who posted 30 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
