Baseball Game Preview: Cumberland Colts vs. St. Joseph Wildcats

The Cumberland Colts will square off against the St. Joseph Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Cumberland: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while St. Joseph has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.

Last Wednesday, Cumberland came up short against Deptford and fell 9-4.

Cumberland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kameron Fiorani, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Joseph). They blew past Atlantic City 11-3 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won five in a row.

Bobby Butkus was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Butkus was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, St. Joseph got a big performance out of Aidan Riley, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Matt Thompson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Cumberland's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for St. Joseph, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
