Softball Recap: Montville Wolves vs. St. Bernard Saints
Montville had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-7 to make it five. They lost 12-0 to the St. Bernard Saints. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Saints this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 back in April.
Montville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jainna Lesniewski, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.
As for St. Bernard, the victory got them back to even at 9-9. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On St. Bernard's side, the result came thanks to Kaitlyn Scribner's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, St. Bernard let Anabelle Wenzel and Lena Byers run wild. Wenzel went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Byers went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Byers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madison Scribner, who went 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montville will host Plainfield at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Bernard, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Killingly at 11:00 a.m.
