Baseball Game Preview: St. John's Christian Academy Cavaliers vs. Holly Hill Academy Raiders

The St. John's Christian Academy Cavaliers are taking a road trip to take on the Holly Hill Academy Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

St. John's Christian Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Dorchester Academy, but they still couldn't quite topple them. St. John's Christian Academy never let Dorchester Academy get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Friday. The Cavaliers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Mason Ritter made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That run marked the first that he scored this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sumter Moorer, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Aiden McCoy was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

St. John's Christian Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Holly Hill Academy came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins dating back to last season (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Warriors as they made off with a 15-6 win.

The victory got St. John's Christian Academy back to even at 2-2. As for Holly Hill Academy, their record is now 1-0.

St. John's Christian Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Holly Hill Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, sneaking past 11-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. John's Christian Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
