Basketball Game Preview: Southwind Jaguars vs. Whitehaven Tigers

The Southwind Jaguars are taking a road trip to square off against the Whitehaven Tigers at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Southwind is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.4 points per game this season.

Southwind is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Tennessee's top teams: Memphis Central, who was ranked 21st at the time (Southwind was ranked 23rd). The Jaguars fell 60-53 to the Warriors on Wednesday. The Jaguars' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Monterrio Cox, who went 8-for-15 on his way to 16 points along with six assists and three steals. He has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last five times he's played. Ronald Towns was another key player, shooting 58% from the field en route to 16 points.

Meanwhile, Whitehaven waltzed into their game on Tuesday with ten straight wins... but they left with 11. Everything went their way against the Warriors as they made off with a 68-42 win. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Whitehaven's victory bumped their record up to 22-7. As for Southwind, their loss dropped their record down to 21-7.

Southwind came up short against Whitehaven in their previous meeting back in January, falling 57-51. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
