Baseball Recap: Northern Garrett Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Northern Garrett waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Lincoln Cougars with a sharp 14-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Northern Garrett let Devin McKenzie and Wally Brands run wild. McKenzie went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Brands went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Hunter Livengood was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Northern Garrett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Northern Garrett's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northern Garrett will head out to take on Meyersdale at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Huskies 2.3, the Red Raiders 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Lincoln, they will head out on the road to square off against Preston at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
