Preview: Vinton County Vikings vs. Nelsonville-York Buckeyes
Vinton County and Nelsonville-York are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Vinton County Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Vinton County is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Monday, Vinton County came up short against Rock Hill and fell 52-41.
Nelsonville-York suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Monday. They had to suffer through a rough 74-43 loss at the hands of Warren. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Nelsonville-York in their matchups with Warren: they've now lost seven in a row.
The losing side was boosted by Airah Lavy, who scored 29 points along with four steals. That was a full 67.4% of Nelsonville-York's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayna Okulich, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and two blocks.
Vinton County's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Nelsonville-York, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
Vinton County came up short against Nelsonville-York in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 46-36. Can Vinton County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
