Baseball Game Preview: Westfield Shamrocks vs. Carroll Chargers

The Westfield Shamrocks will square off against the Carroll Chargers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Westfield is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

Westfield barely beat Hamilton Southeastern the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Shamrocks were the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over the Royals on Friday.

Owen Swinford looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single hit in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ethan Colling and Beck Jordan did most of the damage at the plate: Colling went 4-for-5 with one home run and three RBI, while Jordan went 3-for-5 with six RBI and one double. That's the most hits Jordan has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Russell, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Westfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Carroll was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They fell 5-1 to Huntington North.

Carroll saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaxon Sparks, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Carroll now has a losing record of 11-12. As for Westfield, their record now sits at 16-8.

Westfield skirted past Carroll 5-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Will the Shamrocks repeat their success, or do the Chargers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
