New Mexico Military Institute is on a five-game streak of home wins, while East Mountain is on a nine-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Colts will welcome the Timberwolves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
New Mexico Military Institute came out on top against Bosque on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive 14-run second inning. The Colts blew past the Bobcats 21-6. The victory continues a trend for the Colts in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won three in a row.
Grant Maloney made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Javier Yepiz Galindo was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of New Mexico Military Institute's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Nicolas Barcelo Teran was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
New Mexico Military Institute always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .617. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, while East Mountain put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Ruidoso. The Timberwolves were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Warriors.
The result came thanks to Quinlan Gwyther's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rylen Radosevich was incredible, firing off three home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Davis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs.
East Mountain's win bumped their record up to 16-5. As for New Mexico Military Institute, their victory bumped their record up to 14-6.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. New Mexico Military Institute has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .468. However, it's not like East Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .483. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
