Basketball Recap: Truman Ryan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Central City over Doniphan-Trumbull

If Central City was riding high fresh off their 71-39 takedown of Arcadia/Loup City last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Central City Bison fell 65-55 to the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bison this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 51-46 back in December of 2024.

Several Bison players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Truman Ryan, who posted 17 points. The dominant performance also gave Ryan a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Jakob Ruhl, who went 7 for 16 en route to 17 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Central City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Jack Poppe continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Doniphan-Trumbull, going 10 of 18 on his way to 25 points along with eight assists and seven boards. The contest was Poppe's fifth in a row with at least 17 points. Parker Volk was another key player, going 8 for 9 to rack up 18 points and four blocks.

Central City's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Doniphan-Trumbull, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-5.

Central City has already played their next matchup, a 67-45 victory against Ord on the 8th. As for Doniphan-Trumbull, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 57-56 win against Wood River on the 8th.
