Baseball Recap: Aurora Central Catholic Triumphs

Aurora Central Catholic had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 10-10 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the Leo Lions 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Chargers have posted since April 25, 2024.

Matthew Guzauskas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Aurora Central Catholic is undefeated when Guzauskas allows one or fewer earned runs, but 7-10 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Luke Torrence, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was his first of the season.

As for Leo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. Their defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

On Leo's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Edwin Hernandez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Kyle Jones was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Aurora Central Catholic will have a chance to go back-to-back against Leo: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
