Basketball Recap: Columbus East's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Bloomington North came into Saturday's game looking for another win against Columbus East, but Keaton Lawson wouldn't allow it. The Columbus East Olympians walked away with a 56-48 win over the Bloomington North Cougars on Saturday thanks in part to Lawson, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 16 boards. Those 16 rebounds gave him a new career-high.

Despite the loss, Bloomington North saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Derrick J.R. Cross posted 14 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Vaughns Jr, who had nine points.

Columbus East's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-6. As for Bloomington North, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-11.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus East will host Brownstown Central at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Brownstown Central's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. Bloomington North has already played their next match (against Edgewood), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
