Recap: Payson Longhorns vs. Yuma Catholic Shamrocks
On Thursday, the Payson Longhorns's game was all tied up 15-15 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 37-29 victory over Yuma Catholic. This was payback for Payson, who suffered a 42-37 loss the last time these two teams met.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Payson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hannah Sarnowski, who scored eight points along with six steals. Clara Whaley was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Despite the loss, Yuma Catholic still got an impressive performance from Amanda Wiley, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Wiley scored a full 37.9% of Yuma Catholic's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kimora Coleman, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Yuma Catholic were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Payson's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Yuma Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
