The Lawrence Central Bears will take on the Franklin Central Flashes in a tournament on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, Lawrence Central turned things around against New Castle on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Trojans a 1-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted since April 23rd.
Not much got past Zani Dumas, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep New Castle off the board.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Hoppes, who went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
Meanwhile, Franklin Central got the win against Ben Davis on Monday by a conclusive 15-0. The victory continues a trend for the Flashes in their matchups with the Giants: they've now won eight in a row.
Kiley Renick made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Audrina Yorn was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Adelaide Hubbard was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Franklin Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .567. They are 8-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Lawrence Central's win bumped their record up to 4-13. As for Franklin Central, their victory bumped their record up to 11-7.
Lawrence Central couldn't quite finish off Franklin Central when the teams last played back in May of 2018 and fell 6-4. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
