Baseball Game Preview: Tahanto Regional Stags vs. Assabet Valley RVT Aztecs

The Tahanto Regional Stags will head out on the road to face off against the Assabet Valley RVT Aztecs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Tahanto Regional's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Assabet Valley RVT's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Tahanto Regional took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Maynard a 3-0 shutout. The win was some much needed relief for the Stags as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Not much got past Connor Rice, who gave up just five hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Maynard off the board. Rice has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Luke Stevens was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Meanwhile, Assabet Valley RVT came up short against Burncoat on Tuesday and fell 7-3.

Assabet Valley RVT's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Tahanto Regional, their victory bumped their record up to 6-10.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tahanto Regional has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Assabet Valley RVT struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Tahanto Regional came out on top in a nail-biter against Assabet Valley RVT in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Stags since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
