Baseball Game Preview: Freeburg Midgets vs. Mascoutah Indians

The Freeburg Midgets will challenge the Mascoutah Indians at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.

Freeburg came out on top against East Alton-Wood River on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Midgets were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Oilers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Midgets.

Dane Johnson looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sam Rauckman, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Foster, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Freeburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Alton-Wood River only posted a batting average of .087.

Meanwhile, Mascoutah entered their tilt with Civic Memorial on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 10-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Indians have won by exactly ten runs.

Mascoutah pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Freeburg, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.

Freeburg skirted past Mascoutah 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Midgets repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
