Basketball Recap: Josiah Griffith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Anselmo-Merna over Twin Loup

Anselmo-Merna was the 38-36 winner over Twin Loup when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The matchup between the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes and the Twin Loup Wolves didn't end well, with the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes falling 59-45. The Coyotes were down 48-22 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Several Coyotes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Josiah Griffith, who went 6 of 15 to rack up 18 points. The dominant performance gave Griffith a new career-high in points. Timmy Myers also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Even though they lost, Anselmo-Merna smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Twin Loup got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Yahya Harris out in front who posted 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Hall, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 15 points and seven boards.

Anselmo-Merna has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season. As for Twin Loup, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.

Looking ahead, Anselmo-Merna will venture away from home to square off against South Loup at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Twin Loup, they have already played their next matchup, a 65-25 victory against Elba on the 7th.
