Preview: Douglass Eagles vs. Surrattsville Hornets
Douglass has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against The Surrattsville Hornets at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Douglass will be strutting in after a victory while Surrattsville will be coming in after a loss.
Douglass stacked a third blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They put the hurt on Friendly with a sharp 29-6 win.
Douglass' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ajahne Allen, who rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns, and Mekhi Smith, who rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Smith was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 63 yards.
Meanwhile, Surrattsville fell victim to Largo's stalwart defense last Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 36-0 loss at the hands of the Lions. Surrattsville has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Douglass' victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1. As for Surrattsville, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
Everything came up roses for Douglass against Surrattsville when the teams last played back in October of 2019 as the team secured a 51-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Douglass since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
