Basketball Recap: Wake Prep Academy Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Wake Prep Academy can now relate to. They came up short against the Voyager Academy Vikings on Tuesday, falling 76-53. The Guardians were down 55-34 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the loss, Wake Prep Academy still got an impressive performance from Myles Petersen, who shot 67% from the field en route to 13 points and six boards. Those 13 points gave Petersen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chuks Akwitti, who posted six points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Wake Prep Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matchups.

Alex Wilder went supernova for Voyager Academy, going 6-for-9 to rack up 19 points. Wilder is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Manny Pullium was another key player, putting up six points along with six assists and five steals.

Wake Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 24-5. As for Voyager Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season.

Wake Prep Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Voyager Academy, they will take on Washington County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Voyager Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 17 contests -- so hopefully Washington County likes a good challenge.
