Basketball Game Preview: Putnam City Pirates vs. Mustang Broncos

The Putnam City Pirates will face off against the Mustang Broncos at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Putnam City: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Mustang has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.

Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Putnam City turned things around against Grant on Tuesday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 63-30 win over the Generals. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 31 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Mustang strolled past Deer Creek with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 67-53. Given the Broncos' advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Antlers are ranked 82nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mustang has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Putnam City, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-10.

Putnam City was dealt a bruising 69-31 loss at the hands of Mustang when the teams last played back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mustang's Mya Alston, who went 8 for 16 on her way to 19 points in addition to five boards and three steals.
