Baseball Game Preview: Sterling Golden Warriors vs. Dixon Dukes & Duchesses

The Sterling Golden Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Dixon Dukes & Duchesses at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Sterling will be strutting in after a victory while Dixon will be coming in after a defeat.

Sterling's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 4-0 win over Davenport North.

Not much got past Eli Penne, who gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Davenport North off the board. Penne also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Sterling is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-19 otherwise.

At the plate, Sterling saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drew Nettleton, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Meanwhile, Dixon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They fell 6-3 to Sycamore.

Dixon now has a losing record of 12-13. As for Sterling, their victory bumped their record up to 13-20.

Sterling skirted past Dixon 2-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
