Baseball Recap: Desert Mirage Wins Going Away Against Cathedral City

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Banning, Desert Mirage was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Cathedral City Lions. That looming 12-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the RAMS yet this season.

Alejandro Carmona made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Desert Mirage is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-7 otherwise. Carmona was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March.

In other batting news, Angel Cruz was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Desert Mirage's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 6-1 (and 0-8 when he doesn't). Edilverto Biarco was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Desert Mirage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory snapped Desert Mirage's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-9 record. As for Cathedral City, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.

Desert Mirage will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Lions: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
