Football Preview: Trabuco Hills Mustangs vs. Corona del Mar Sea Kings

The Trabuco Hills Mustangs will head out to take on the Corona del Mar Sea Kings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Trabuco Hills is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road dating back to last season.

Last Friday, Trabuco Hills strolled past El Toro with points to spare, taking the game 35-20. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 96th, while the Chargers are ranked 219th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tristan Zale was his usual excellent self, throwing for 258 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 41 yards and a touchdown. Zale is crushing it when it comes to passing touchdowns: he's passed for at least three every time he's taken the field this season. Mikey Gray did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 51 receiving yards.

Trabuco Hills' defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Alex Kiernan. Another thorn in El Toro's side was Tyler Schmaltz, who picked up two sacks and made five total tackles.

Meanwhile, Corona del Mar fell victim to San Clemente and their airtight defense two weeks ago. They were outmatched by the Tritons at home and fell 28-0. The Sea Kings haven't had much luck with the Tritons recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Trabuco Hills' win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Corona del Mar, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2.

Trabuco Hills couldn't quite finish off Corona del Mar in their previous meeting back in September of 2023 and fell 17-15. Can Trabuco Hills avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
