League recap: Longview tops Horn to extend winning streak

5A Region II District 12 recap October 22, 2013

Longview added to the longest winning streak in 5A Region II District 12 this week by beating Horn, 49-30. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

Mesquite scaled the state rankings by moving to 72 from 119 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Skeeters were able to move up by defeating North Mesquite 34-33.

Destri White threw for 282 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 24-38 with 1 interception.

Shadavian Reed was the best running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 117 yards as Mesquite lost to Longview. Teammate Trey LeBlanc added to the ground attack by rushing for 55 yards.

Horn's White and Del'Michael High led 5A Region II District 12 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback White has thrown for 1,744 yards this season, while High has 42 catches for 621 yards. Robbie Robinson's team's Reed leads the league in rushing yards with 904.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place North Mesquite takes on second place Longview. The Stallions lost to the Skeeters last week, while John King's team defeated Mike Overton's team.

Mesquite's Reed is a mere 96 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 110 carries Reed has accumulated 904 yard this year.

The Lobos took down the Jaguars 49-30 last week, the largest margin of any game.
