Prout faced Westerly in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Crusaders had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 5-3. This was payback for the Crusaders, who suffered a 6-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Lucy Kaiser spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emma Manzo, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsea Flaherty, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Prout is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Westerly, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Prout will face off against Coventry at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Oakers will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Crusaders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Westerly, they will take on Barrington at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 10.6 runs per game this season.
