Basketball Game Preview: Hayfield Hawks vs. Mount Vernon Majors

Hayfield and Mount Vernon are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Hayfield Hawks just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Mount Vernon Majors at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Hayfield is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

On Thursday, Hayfield was fully in charge, breezing past Annandale 56-10. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 23 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Mount Vernon came up short against Falls Church on Tuesday and fell 49-39. The Majors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hayfield will have to contain Rachael Sykes as she made an impact in Mount Vernon's last game. She posted 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of KaMiyah Dabner, who scored ten points and seven rebounds.

Hayfield's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 33.2 points. As for Mount Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Hayfield strolled past Mount Vernon when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 52-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hayfield since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
