Softball Recap: Greene Central Comes Up Short

Greene Central had lost 23 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-22 to make it 24. They lost 13-1 to the North East Carolina Prep Husky. Having soared to a lofty 23 runs in the game before, the Rams couldn't push the score so high this time.

Shelby McKeel made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Katherine Medlin, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for North East Carolina Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games.

On North East Carolina Prep's side, Savannah Babb was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. Babb was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Natalie Bunting was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Nicole Jeffreys was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Greene Central does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for North East Carolina Prep, they will challenge Perquimans at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Husky surely won't give up without a fight.
