Basketball Recap: Avon Gets the Win

Avon won the last time they faced Tri-West Hendricks and Jedidiah Minnett did his part to make sure it happened again. The Orioles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Bruins on Saturday, sneaking past 62-60 for which the team can thank Minnett, who posted 30 points. He is becoming a predictor of Avon's success: when he posts at least 20 points the team is 4-2 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

Tyrone Elmore was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 46% field goal percentage.

Several Bruins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ryan Miller, who went 5-for-11 on his way to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Thomas, who shot 45% from the field en route to 18 points.

The victory got Avon back to even at 5-5. As for Tri-West Hendricks, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.

Looking ahead, Avon will face off against New Palestine at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Tri-West Hendricks, they will square off against Guerin Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins' defense better be ready for this one: the Golden Eagles have averaged an impressive 58.5 points per game this season.
