Baseball Recap: Merritt Academy Comes Up Short

If Merritt Academy was riding high fresh off their 18-3 takedown of Landmark Academy on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs came up short against the Capac Chiefs on Friday, falling 11-5. The Mustangs were not able to make up for their loss to the Chiefs from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Lucas Hayter was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Goodwin, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Merritt Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-5. As for Capac, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6-2 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Merritt Academy will host Fitzgerald at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Capac, they will challenge Marlette at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
