Basketball Recap: El Dorado Takes a Loss

After flying high against Highlands last Saturday, El Dorado came back down to earth. The El Dorado Cougars came up short against the Woodcreek Timberwolves on Thursday, falling 70-49. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 698th, while the Timberwolves are ranked 20th).

Defeat or not, El Dorado got some senior leadership from Logan Baker and Drew Bird. Baker went 9 for 16 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds, while Bird posted 14 points and three steals. The game was Baker's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Clay Garrett, who put up nine points.

Among those leading the charge was Chase Yukawa, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points. Those 16 points gave him a new career-high. Max VanLaningham was another key player, putting up eight points.

El Dorado moved to 7-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Woodcreek, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.

El Dorado didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-53 defeat against Foothill on the 20th. As for Woodcreek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-56 victory against Lodi on the 20th.
