Basketball Recap: Greer Takes a Loss

After flying high against Berea on Friday, Greer came back down to earth. The Greer Yellow Jackets fell to the Powdersville Patriots 67-61. The Yellow Jackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Powdersville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaleel McGee out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Von Burton, who went 8 of 11 on his way to 18 points and five boards.

Greer's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Powdersville, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greer will welcome Daniel at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Greer knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matches -- so hopefully Daniel likes a good challenge. As for Powdersville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Southside Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Powdersville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.8 points per game this season.
