Softball Recap: Amherst Comes Up Short

Amherst was the 4-1 winner over Manawa when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Falcons fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 3-1 on Thursday.

Sam Nooyen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Amherst saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ivy Boelk, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Delaney Conner also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Amherst's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Manawa, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-1.

Coincidentally, Amherst and Manawa will both be playing Bonduel the next time they take the field. The Falcons will head out to face the Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Wolves will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
