The Mt. Vernon Wildcats will head out to face off against the Heritage Hills Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Vernon has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with eight straight losses, while Heritage Hills will come in with three straight victories.
Mt. Vernon made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Forest Park, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wildcats fell just short of the Rangers by a score of 11-9 on Tuesday.
Levi Embrey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Shane Krieger also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Heritage Hills made easy work of North Harrison on Wednesday and carried off a 10-3 win. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.
Andersen Smith made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Micah Toler was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Peyton Gray was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Heritage Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Heritage Hills, their record is now 8-2.
Mt. Vernon came up short against Heritage Hills when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 6-1. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
