The Vallivue Falcons will take on the Mountain View Mavericks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Vallivue is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.5 runs per game this season.
Vallivue will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Columbia on Friday. Vallivue was the clear victor by a 19-3 margin over Columbia. The Falcons have beaten the Wildcats the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wildcats has come to flipping the script.
Bella Magallon was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Evonny Gonzales, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Vallivue was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .808. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Mountain View faced Bishop Kelly in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Mountain View had just enough and edged out Bishop Kelly 9-8.
Emersen Lukoic was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayelynn Puyleart, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Vallivue's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Mountain View, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Mountain View's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Vallivue has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Mountain View, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Vallivue's sizable advantage in that area, Mountain View will need to find a way to close that gap.
Vallivue suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Mountain View when the teams last played back in April of 2016. Can Vallivue avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
