Basketball Recap: Haynes Academy Takes a Loss

Haynes Academy suffered their biggest loss since December 21, 2024 on Friday. They were dealt a 67-34 defeat at the hands of the Newman Greenies. While losing is never fun, Haynes Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while Newman is ranked 42nd).

Leading Newman to victory were Payton Foster and Randy Livingston Jr. Foster shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Livingston Jr went 5 for 10 en route to 12 points in addition to five assists and four steals. Livingston Jr has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dre Davis, who posted nine points.

Haynes Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season. As for Newman, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-5.

Haynes Academy will take on Bonnabel at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Newman has already played their next game (against Warren Easton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
