Basketball Recap: Friends Academy Quakers vs. Malverne Mules
The Friends Academy Quakers waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with 11 straight wins but they left with 12. They took down Malverne 61-45. Given Friends Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while the Mules are ranked 589th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Jackson O'Brien, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Mckenzie, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Friends Academy's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.3 points per game. As for Malverne, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Friends Academy will head out on the road to square off against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Malverne, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Golden Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. Lawrence comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
