Basketball Recap: Havelock Rams vs. New Bern Bears
Havelock unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were dealt a 76-42 loss at the hands of the New Bern Bears on Tuesday. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.
Despite the loss, Havelock still got an impressive performance from Rafael Abdul-Ali, who shot 53% from the field en route to 20 points and six boards. Isaiah Prichard was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
New Bern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Terry Riggins led the charge by going 6-for-8 on his way to 14 points and three steals. Riggins has also also been stellar as far as shooting accuracy is concerned: he's posted one of at least 50% every time he's hit the court this season. Another player making a difference was AJ Scott, who shot 47% from the field to rack up 15 points.
The win (which was New Bern's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Coming up, Havelock will head out to square off against Southwest Onslow at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Bern, they will be playing at home against Pamlico County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
