Basketball Recap: Mexia Drops Season-High Score on Westwood

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mexia). They managed a 69-63 win over the Westwood Panthers on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Black Cats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 415th, while the Panthers are ranked 170th).

Despite the defeat, Westwood saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kavian Bryant almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds. The contest was Bryant's 15th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian Lathan, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards.

The win made it two in a row for Mexia and bumps their season record up to 9-7. As for Westwood, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mexia will welcome Elkhart at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Westwood will take on Buffalo in a holiday battle at at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Buffalo has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
