Basketball Recap: Vina Comes Up Short

Vina lost against Marion County back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Vina Red Devils fell 31-23 to the Marion County Red Raiders. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 429th, while the Red Raiders are ranked 87th).

Despite the loss, Vina still got an impressive performance from Claire McCarley, who posted 16 points. Those 16 points gave McCarley a new career-high.

Vina has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-23 record this season. As for Marion County, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vina won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Waterloo at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Marion County, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll face off against Sulligent at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
