Softball Recap: Nelsonville-York Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Nelsonville-York's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They blew past the Alexander Spartans 12-2. For the Buckeyes, this counts as revenge for the 22-8 win the Spartans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Lilly Gura was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Gura was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, Emmie Fowler and Hallie Koerner did most of the damage at the plate: Fowler went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Koerner went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was Fowler's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of McKinley Nungester, who went 2-for-3 with three runs.

Nelsonville-York kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Nelsonville-York's victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-3. As for Alexander, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Nelsonville-York will square off against Millersport at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Buckeyes will need to watch out since the Lakers have now posted at least ten runs in their last five games. As for Alexander, they will head out on the road to face off against Wellston at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
